Flaring Multilayer Pipe: How the aquatechnik Safety-Plus Connection Works
When working with multilayer piping systems, the way a pipe connects to the fitting can make a significant difference in installation time, flow performance and long-term reliability.
aquatechnik’s Safety-Plus system, used with Multi-Calor multilayer pipe, takes a different approach from traditional press-fit connections. Instead of crimping or pressing the fitting onto the pipe, the system uses a process called flaring.
What is Pipe Flaring?
Flaring is the process of expanding the end of the pipe to create a wider, shaped opening that accepts the fitting.
With the aquatechnik system, the pipe end is expanded using a dedicated flaring tool. The fitting is then inserted into the widened pipe, where the shape of the fitting and pipe work together to correctly compress the O-rings and create a secure seal.
A safety cap is then tightened into position, providing the mechanical hold for the completed connection.
The result is a simple, secure connection suitable for both exposed and concealed installations.
Why Use a Flared Connection?
One of the biggest advantages of the Safety-Plus system is what happens inside the pipe.
Because the pipe is expanded to accept the fitting, the connection maintains a wider internal bore than many conventional fitting systems. That can help reduce restrictions through the piping system and support better overall flow.

How is an aquatechnik Flared Connection Made?
The process is straightforward, but installers should always follow the complete instructions supplied with the aquatechnik tools and system components.
In general, installation involves:
- Selecting and assembling the appropriate flaring components for the pipe diameter.
- Cutting the pipe cleanly at the required location.
- Sliding the Safety-Plus cap onto the pipe.
- Positioning the pipe on the flaring tool.
- Expanding the pipe until the flaring cycle is complete.
- Inserting the fitting fully into the newly flared pipe end.
- Tightening the cap with the locking wrench until it reaches the safety locking position.
Once complete, the fitting is mechanically secured and ready for use.
